The Secret “Tricks Of The Trade” To Getting Hired On A Cruise Ship

by jobs.at.cruise.ships on Jul.08, 2009, under Cruise Ship Jobs

Cruise ship jobs are some of the popular ones available in the market today. And who wouldn’t want to work on cruise ships? You get to work in very good environment and at the same time, you get to travel to different places. All while earning a very good pay check.

However, because of their popularity, you can expect that there are many people applying for the position. So if you really want to get the job, you need to stand out among the hundreds of hopefuls. While this may not be an easy one, however, there are a few tricks that you can pull off to impress the hiring manager and get a good chance at the job.

The very first thing you need to work out with is your resume and application forms. What you need to do is to make your initial application stand out. Though you won’t be able to do anything with the application form (since they’re pretty much standard), you still have your resume to work with.

Since there are a lot of applications stacked on managers’ tables, they often just browse the resumes before either throwing it to the shortlist or into the trashcan. Thus, you need to get their attention in only one or two seconds. The key is a properly constructed resume.

The best thing that you can do is put those things that the manager will probably look up first on top of the list. Aside from your name, of course, the most common things that managers are likely to look for are your educational background, work experience and skills. If you can’t place them on top, they should ideally be still on the first page. Also, instead of stuffing your skills list with too many just to impress, put only those that you think will definitely be suited for the job.

If you do get a call for an interview, you need to prepare for that one. Your attire is definitely the first thing that hiring personnel will take notice of. Thus you need to be presentable. Unless the interview is for a high position and is supposed to be formal, you can usually ditch the coat and tie outfit in favor of a more comfortable short sleeved polo.

During the interview, be very attentive of what the hiring managers says and asks you. Managers often use the interviews not only to gauge your intellect but also to test your attentiveness and ability to follow orders. The interview also often serves as a way for managers to determine your working personality, which is very important in the industry. Thus, you should be composed and calm when answering, while at the same time being cheerful and upbeat. Managers also find it a lot likable if you can crack a few jokes along the way, as this show that you do have a good set of interpersonal skill.
